The Rend Collective - Good News


With such a group of talented musicians, Rend Collective have put out another big hit in Good News.  Rend Collective are a Christian band out of Northern Ireland.  I would call their style folk rock, worship.  The current members of the band are Gareth Gilkeson, Chris Llewelyn, Ali Gilkeson, Patrick Thompson and Steve Mitchell.  

They all play various instruments throughout, but mainly Chis Llewelyn is the lead singer and plays accoutic guitar, Gareth is the drummer, Patrick on Guitar/Banjo, Ali is on keyboard and backing vocals and Steve on Bass.

I saw them perform 2 years ago and they are suck and energetic band and know how to keep an audience going from end to end in a show.  They have put out some fantastic albums over the years.

Good News being the latest has the same energy and power of the other albums.  The song "Rescuer/Good News" is powerful and had everyone singing through the folky ballad.  It's by far my favorite song on the album.

"I Will be Undignified" sound like a classic Irish folk song and sounds like it could have been a campfire song and I imagine dancing around a campfire with all the guys playing their instruments while the rest dance along and clap.

"Nailed to the Cross" is quite a solid ballad of worship.  Its powerful and brings out a strong feeling from inside as you listen to it.

"Hymn of the Ages" is a nice ballad/hymn/worship song.  The whole band just comes together in song and blends the instruments all together in part.

Another fantastic song on the album in "True North"  - "You are my true north"  such a strong statement to make and such a fantastic song to hear.  Uptempo and bouncy as they sing.  What a great tune.

"Resurrection Day" is so powerful and gives me goose bumps listening to it.  it powerful and beautiful all in one.  some really fantastic banjo, mandolin and acoustics in it.  

I picked this album up on vinyl to add to that weekly routine of just kicking on an album as I sit and work out of my home office.  The songs are so powerful and strong and have amazing lyrics.  These are songs I believe you will hear if you worship in a contemporary Christian Church.  
they will be classics to play on in the future.

Belly was formed in 1991 when Tonya Donelly of Throwing Muses and Breeders decided she needed a new creative outlet for her dreamy pop style of music that was different from what Breeders had done.  Although they are all from Rhode Island, they are still known more as a Boston Based band. Dead & Company formed shortly after the surviving members of The Grateful Dead played their 50th Anniversary Farewell concerts in Chicago, called Fare The Well.  They had Trey Anistasio from Phish, Bruce Hornsby and Jeff Chimenti join them for their final 3 shows together. Phil Lesh no longer wanted to tour and so Bobby, Bill & Mickey teamed up with John Mayer, Oteil Bubridge and Jeff Chimenti to form Dead & Company.  October 31, 2015 was start of the bands first tour and they have been out doing a summer and fall tour for the last couple years. MASTERSYSTEM - "Dance Music"

Mastersystem is/was a new super group or something of that matter that just release their debut album "Dance Music" on Physical Education Records.  I do say is/was since the heartbreaking news that lead singer Scott Hutchison (Frightened Rabbit) ended his life last week in Scotland after suffering from depression.  This has been heartbreaking to me as I believe he had a lot more to offer us with his talent from the slow melodic/dark songs of Frightened Rabbit to this project which brought together members of FR, Editors and Minor Victories to play more guitar heavy with influences of grunge rock from the 90's.
